Georgetown Attainable Housing Initiative
The project teams have been working diligently over the past few months. Work has been focused on gathering information, researching various options, trying to understand the housing challenges, and working to identify possible solutions. The four teams are: “Aging in Place”, “Understanding Town Ordinances”, “Housing Options”, and “Foundations and Other Resources”.
The next step is to involve a wide range of town residents in the discussion. We are now ready to hold a town forum. We intend to share the work we have done to date, seek input from all interested residents on understanding the housing needs in town, learn what challenges people have faced in finding or creating housing, and begin to shape the way forward for the initiative. Some questions that might spark discussion:
-
Is our strong year ‘round community disappearing?
-
Would you like to see more affordable housing on the island?
-
Would you like to build another dwelling on your property for the next
generation or your elders?
-
Is it important to have workforce housing to support local businesses?
-
Are there benefits and challenges with Short Term Rentals?
-
Is there a housing crisis in Georgetown?
This link goes to our flyer announcing the event.
Once the forum is complete, we will post more information inlcuding the reports from each team, as well as links to other informative sites.
